The Challenge

When Adam joined, he was in Year 7 and was finding Mathematics challenging. He needed support to strengthen his understanding and develop greater confidence in the subject.

What began as a focus on improving his Mathematics fundamentals gradually turned into a much bigger academic transformation.

Student: Adam Wilhite

Grade: Year 7

Curriculum: British / GCSE

Subject:Mathematics

Tutor: Samarpita Roy

Classes per Week: 2

The Approach

Building a stronger foundation. The initial focus was on helping Adam improve his understanding of Mathematics and become more comfortable with the subject.

Developing confidence. As his understanding improved, Adam became more capable of handling increasingly challenging Mathematics concepts.

Progressing to Higher Maths. His improvement was significant enough that he was eventually promoted to Higher Mathematics, allowing him to take on more advanced content.

Sustained preparation. Adam continued building on this progress as he moved through his secondary-school Mathematics journey, eventually preparing for his GCSE examinations.

The Result

Adam’s progress went far beyond simply improving his performance in Year 7. He was promoted to Higher Mathematics and went on to achieve a strong result in his GCSE Mathematics examination.

His journey demonstrates how early intervention, consistent academic support, and steadily increasing confidence can create a lasting impact on a student’s Mathematics journey.

“He joined me when he was in Year 7 and was not doing well in Maths. However, after joining me, he was not only promoted to Higher Maths but also scored well in his GCSE.” — Samarpita Roy, Adam’s Tutor

What Made the Difference

  • Stronger foundations gave Adam the base he needed to progress.
  • Consistent support helped him move beyond his initial difficulties.
  • Growing confidence enabled him to take on more advanced Mathematics.
  • Progressive challenge prepared him for Higher Mathematics and eventually GCSE-level work.
  • Long-term consistency helped turn early struggles into sustained academic success.

Looking Ahead

Adam’s journey from finding Mathematics difficult in Year 7 to being promoted to Higher Maths and achieving a strong GCSE result is a powerful example of how a student’s trajectory can change with the right support and sustained effort.
