The Challenge

When Julia joined Mentor Match, she was already performing well in Mathematics. Her main areas for growth were confidence, exam technique, and time management.

The focus was on helping her turn her existing subject knowledge into stronger exam performance while becoming more confident, accurate, and efficient when working under examination conditions.

Student: Julia Makhoul

Curriculum: IB

Subject: Mathematics

Tutor: Subhasini Kafle

The Approach

Strengthening confidence. Julia was supported in becoming more confident in her mathematical abilities and in approaching challenging questions without hesitation.

Exam-focused preparation. Mock tests and exam-focused preparation helped her become more familiar with examination expectations and develop stronger exam technique.

Personalised practice. Personalised worksheets were used to target specific areas and give Julia focused opportunities to practise.

Building accuracy and speed. The preparation placed emphasis on improving accuracy and working efficiently, helping Julia manage her time more effectively during assessments.

The Result

Julia progressed from approximately Grade 6–7 to Grade 8 in IB Mathematics and is now performing at a level that exceeds expectations.

Her improvement was reflected not only in her academic score, but also in confidence, accuracy, speed, exam technique, independent learning, and consistency.

A particularly notable achievement came when Julia was recognised with an award for achieving the highest score in Mathematics within her grade level at her school.

“The student was already performing well in Mathematics and demonstrated consistent improvement throughout the year. Her strong subject knowledge, attentiveness, and dedication, together with effective parent-teacher collaboration, contributed significantly to her progress.” — Subhasini Kafle, Julia’s Tutor
