Teaching, working as an academic or a professor, and so on can often be seen as the road less taken. It’s often said that those who cannot do, teach instead! But teaching is a much more complicated and interesting task than it might seem—it involves much more than just standing in a classroom and putting up with K12 kids’ antics! Teachers have numerous day-to-day responsibilities, including lesson planning, lecturing, grading—but most importantly, we do our best to make sure no child is left behind! I am Alina, a tutor and mentor on Mentor Match, an online tutoring platform in the US.

Each day, as I start out with my scheduled online tutoring sessions, I set out on a journey of nurturing minds and shaping their hearts. It's a journey that transcends the boundaries of traditional education, delving deep into the realms of character building and moral guidance. Yet, being a teacher encompasses far more than the confines of the online screens or school walls. Whether I'm volunteering in my community or simply lending a listening ear to a friend in need, I strive to exemplify the values that I impart to my students, recognizing that the lessons we teach extend far beyond the boundaries of academia. Yes, the teaching profession often comes with its share of challenges, from navigating bureaucratic red tape to grappling with limited resources.
